Workshop Description

This workshop explores the new literacies of technology—what they are in theory and in practice. We will look at the following questions:

*What are “new literacies” and how do they relate to technology, teaching, and higher education?
*What technologies and pedagogies can be empowering to students and faculty?
*How can teachers use current theory and research on technology and new literacies to reconceptualize their work?

This workshop will explore current uses and best practices of technology in teaching. There will be a focus on the rationales and pedagogies as well as the technical features of various applications. The topics will include digital photography, digital audio and video editing, blogs, podcasts, RSS feeds, and other applications of social software and online education.
